Lead vocalist Çiğdem Aslan (Turkey), is joined by special guest singers from Romania and Bulgaria, displaying their expertise and virtuosic skills in a wealth of regional and national styles that include polyphonic Bulgarian singing from the heart of the Balkan mountains, a dramatic Ottoman dance in a 9/8 rhythm known as the father ‘Rom’, a Sevdah song from the former Yugoslavia entitled ‘My Pigeon’ and spirited songs from the villages of Transylvania. Melancholic, heart-warming, uplifting and ecstatically danceable music, leaving more than a hint of brandy in the air.
She’koyokh’s members hail from the UK, USA, Serbia, Sweden and Turkey, forging a unique sound that is traditional yet original. Their live shows are an expertly crafted, multi-lingual exploration from the Baltic to the Black Sea with klezmer instrumentals and folk tunes from Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia. She’koyokh perform in the famous concert halls and festivals of Europe and we welcome them warmly back to Wimbledon Festival.
